Our Story

One story, a shared calling

Our practice began with our founder's healing journey. Today, it's a team called to walk alongside others in theirs.

A gentle note: this story mentions depression and suicidal thoughts. Please read at your own pace.

Where it began

In her final year of undergrad, Shannyah was diagnosed with clinical depression. While she worked to finish her degree, she dealt with systemic racism, a life-altering situation that had occurred, and unfamiliar emotions that were heavy and suffocating. She held many questions about God's love and presence. Why would God allow her to experience all of this? The pain grew so much that she became suicidal.

What carried her through was a moment of encounter with God, prayers, and the support of her family.

A gap in care

When Shannyah reached out for professional support, she struggled to feel understood. Her therapist didn't grasp what it meant to move through the world as a Black woman, or how central her Christian faith was to her healing. She was in the middle of a faith crisis, yet there was no room to bring her beliefs into the conversation.

That experience showed her a real gap in mental health care, one felt by many Christians and many in Black communities who want support that honours both their faith and their culture.

The season that nearly broke her became the calling that shapes everything we do.

During the pandemic, the Lord instructed her to go back to school and become a therapist. She would become the kind of therapist she needed in her darkest season. Step by step, God used her healing to reshape her life and her purpose.

Who we are today

That calling is no longer carried by one person. Shannyah Christian Psychotherapy & Consulting has grown into a team of therapists and interns who each bring their own training, life experience, and faith to this work. We share one commitment: care that is clinically grounded, compassionate, faith-aware, and honest about what real healing takes.

Whether you are a believer wrestling with hard questions, someone carrying church hurt, or simply looking for people who will see the whole you, our team is here to walk alongside you. You are not alone, and your story isn't over.

If you are having thoughts of suicide, please reach out now. Call or text 9-8-8 any time, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency department.
